Company Background

This lending institution was pursuing an aggressive strategy to acquire other banks. This created a need for analyzing and monitoring the performance of these newly acquired institutions on an ongoing basis. In order to perform analysis, a combination of different ad hoc reports were put together using spreadsheets. The patchwork of numerous financial applications was cumbersome to deal with and no standard interface existed to link the different systems.

The limited functionality with the disparate systems made it difficult and time consuming to create and access comprehensive financial reports, restricting the amount of value-added analysis that could be performed.

Objectives

There was a need for standardized reports and graphs that could be created on a monthly basis with minimal effort by a non-technical person. Real time access to a reporting system became imperative in order to provide senior management with quick and accurate financial information.

Our representatives met with the Head of the Bank Reporting Unit, who explained their needs for establishing standardized reporting and graphing. Ideally, this process was to be automated to the fullest extent possible with a user friendly front-end. This would enable administrative staff members to run these reports and access information in a timely manner. We recommended writing an application with a user-friendly GUI front end that could be executed by a non-programmer each month.

Resolutions

We met with key individuals from the Organization who were involved with this venture and analyzed their current situation and their needs. We looked at existing ad hoc reports, data sources, users and methodology used to give them their required information. Based on their needs, we developed a highly automated reporting and graphing package, which was designed to provide them with accurate information in a consistent and timely manner. We built this software solution using application development tools in a Windows based environment.

Benefits

The Organization now has standard reporting and graphing applications in place. Their administrative staff members can easily access this information on a monthly or as-needed basis. Financial information is available in a timely and consistent manner through an automated process. This system enables upper management to make strategic decisions on subsidiary performance based on accurate, timely and consistent information.
