Company Background This Organization is a leader in health care financing and has served as a not-for-profit agency for over fifty years. It has a network of independent, locally operated companies. Objectives This Organization is responsible for creating standard reports and graphs on a monthly basis about plan utilization rates. This was being done by six analysts, each dedicating several weeks per month towards this effort. They were using a combination of software, both in the mainframe and Windows environments. Many manual processes existed which were prone to error, including the transfer of data between various different software packages. Resolutions We built an intelligent software application, which operates in a client server environment between Windows NT server and MVS that automatically determines the reporting periods. This application extracts data from their DB2 data warehouse, cleans it, analyzes and summarizes it to produce web and print based standard reports and graphs. This is one continuous process, which eliminates the need for any other software application. The job is run once a month by an administrative person. They click on a front-end GUI application and the reports and graphs are automatically published. Benefits This Organization used to print all their reports and graphs on paper and then route them to all the doctors and providers participating in their plans. The new application that was developed freed up the six analysts from having to engage in a manual process to create monthly reports and graphs. It automated the process and made it accessible to all individuals on a real time basis. This application prints reports and graphs in a web-based environment, using HTML and Adobe PDF formats. It automatically publishes the information on their corporate Intranet.
