Company Background This nonprofit institution helps improve policy and decision making, in both the private and public sector, by conducting extensive research and analysis. It is primarily a research and development organization that conducts government research and analysis using statistics. It does this by analyzing developments and trends in national defense, education and training, health care, criminal and civil justice, labor and population, science and technology, community development, international relations and regional studies. One of the Organization's principles stated in its mission statement is to meet the highest technical standards by employing advanced empirical methods, in its research and analysis methodologies. Consulting Project 1 Objectives The Company's business office needed a software application to track the inventory of all computer hardware, software and telephone equipment for employees at all locations, both on and off site. Tracking all this information was quite challenging. The difficulties with tracking and the UNIX interface originally used, made it difficult to work with this system, upgrade it and have management use it to make projections regarding cost allocations for such resources. Resolutions Destiny Consulting developed an on line, analytical processing (OLAP) application to meet the Organizations inventory tracking requirements. This software solution enabled multiple users to have concurrent access to data and also allowed them to modify information at the same time. It allowed modifications to be reflected across the Organization in a real-time manner. Additional features included a friendly Windows interface and software upgrades that were easily implemented. Benefits With the new OLAP software, the Organization now has multiple user access to this information. Also, since this is highly confidential information, Destiny implemented tight levels of security for different levels of access to this data. Users have a Windows driven, GUI front end while the data resides on a client server platform. This project was designed, built and implemented within the specified budget and time lines. With the new, consolidated tracking process, users have real-time access to accurate information that they are able to work with simultaneously. This enables key decision makers through out the Organization to track, monitor and gain immediate access to this information for budgeting and reporting purposes. Consulting Project 2 Objectives The client's business office was also concerned about Y2K issues. The organization has hundreds of programs and a large number of users and programmers. They wanted an intelligent way to search for and identify any Y2K issues well before the turn of the century. Resolutions Destiny Consulting was able to write an application that every employee, at the client site, could use to analyze their program libraries and data in order to determine any potential Y2K issues. Benefits On New Years Eve,1999, many programmers tested their programs after midnight. No Y2K issues were reported. |
